ODI Cricket & Indian Cricketers’ Show
ODI Cricket and the Indian Cricketers’ Show
Instance cricket is so famous among the cricket fans of the world since its implementation. It is combating as well as big entertaining and greater than it result prone.. It was came in the tradition in 1972 when a Test match’s three days were washed away due to heavy rain in Australia. Since then it came in the force and with the time it has become elixir and in action regularly. And can say it has lessened the glory of Test Matches.
I do talk about India’s ODI cricketers particularly the batsmen. ODI is the batsmen’s dominant game. And its aim is to hit or amass sixes and fours on cost of brutality over the bowlers . Why because the bowlers get to need only balls to wrap up or bundle out 20 wickets . And if it happens then the match gets the end in just 20 minues and then for the the spectators no entertainment or in india’s Hindi “Paisa Not Vasul” .
So the ICC decided some restrictions and implemented as the rules . And so far many amendments have done. And in it the bowlers and fielders are helpless customers or fellows. In the one day batsmen are the real warriors but after all great bravery it has to die on any a delivery.
India put its 1st step in the field of ODI on the 13th July ,1972 against England at Leeds ,Headigley, England.
India lost that ODI in which India’s captain Ajit Wadekar the then played good innings
( 67 run /82 balls/ 10 fours ) and hitter Brijesh Patel played an aggressive innings of 82 runs /78 balls / 8 fours and 2 sixes.
Gavaskar 28 runs /35 balls / 3 fours / 1 six
Farukh Engineer scored 35 run on 56 balls and hit out 3 fours.
If we look out India’s.
1st ODI performance then we find india under Ajit Wadekar ‘s captaincy set target 265 by got all out in 53.5 overs ( 4.9 run per over)
Rival England achieved this target in 51.01 overs by making 5.19 run per overs made 266 by losing 6 wicket.
Thus india lost the match by 4 wicket. Since then india improved and improved. And there are some luminous crests in its crown as 1983 and 2011 World Cup , Benson and Hedges Mini World Cup , Asia Cup , Champion Trophy, Newest Trophy and few others.
And so far from India 211 cricketers have remained in the ODIs action .
And in it whose batting performance remained buzzing are with the batting average:—-

*In these 20 batsmen only two batters have over 50 plus batting average and they are V Kohli and MD Dhoni.
{ Note– Here I have kept 3000 run critera at least score to measure greatness of the batsmen.
In this superb 20 batsmen’s list put Kapil Dev because his run tally is over 5000 though the average is poor but his strike rate is very high …}
I too have inducted Mohinder Amarnath despite 1912 runs but his status is supreme as the batsman all-rounder and the hero of WC 83 final and semifinal and genuine Test batsman of era and amazing in the Test his strike rate is 87 so for him I have decked the 3000 run criteria.
*This is the overall list of indian ODIs’ big performers.
But to justify each batsman and his performance I have divided these batsmen’ s playing phase into 3 parts, i.e.–
1975 To -1987

Who are all time top 5 ODI batsmen of india.
Before discussion some sub questions—
*Average
*Striking rate
*Number of ODIs
*Playing Era
*Condition
*Rules
*Apparatus facilities
*Extra Factors
Yeah these are the points those raise questions…
●◆Gavaskar Era◆●
This is the beginning era and up to 1982 the rules were followed as per the Test Match. So 1972 to 1982 means 10 year
And the era goes up to 1987 means 5 more years of this era
So this era is divided into
2 phases.
Yes 10 years and 5 years
In this era from india who played are—–
1.Sunil Gavaskar,
2.Mohinder Amarnath,
3.K Shreekant,
4.D Vengserkar,
5.Kapil Dev
Yes these only 5 batsmen come in the race and average point of view rank rests as–
1.SM Gavaskar
Dilip Vengserkar
Mohinder Amarnath
Kris Shreekanth
5.Kapil Dev
Kapil was not a genuine batsman he was a bowling all-rounder so his batting average is low but he represented in some tough and challanfing era and to see his approach criteria is overlooked .
In the ODI strike rate is the main point to mark but for it —
*3000 runs is minimum criteria.
*Strike rate criteria is different to have different era
Yes 1972 to 1982 –the SR 50 plus must take the best because of unrestricted rule .
1983 to 1987 –the strike rate 60 plus should consider best.
And 1988 to 2K11– the SR 75 to 80 better and 90 is the best .
And 2k12 to 2019 SR 90 is common and 100 plus is the best .
So on this scale if the rank is decided then
Who is the best .
Sunny Gavaskar Era phase 1st —
S Gavaskar rests 1st
If we observe the figures that how many runs he got from1972 to 1982 and his contemporary players got how much runs but it is 1972 to 1982 no batsman in india team whose performance was better than Gavaskar if longevity is seen . At that time Ajit Wadekar, G Vishwanath , Mohinder Amarnath, Chetan Chohan ,A Gaikwad ,E Solkar ,F Engineer ,D Vengserkar were the batsman and all were inconstant and unstable.
◆◆Sunny Gavaskar Era phase 2nd—
{Average point of view the rank)
SM Gavaskar
2.K Shreekant
3.Dilip Vengserkar
4.Ravi Shastri
5.Mohinder Amarnath
M Amarnath is placed in the list despite his less run tally under 2000 (1912)
Here criteria is 3000 run at least but M Amarnath is comprised in the measure.
And the fact is amazing to mind that M Amarnath’s SR is only 57.71 in ODI while in the Test his SR is 85.
◆Point to shake well and after refinement the result rests as—
The strike rate and batting average are average of these prime great ( Gavaskar era) as comparatively to the Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni Era.
Why…….??? ??????????
Because that was the beginning era and the format wasn’t accepted by genuine cricketers of that time and many of them take lightly . And there was lack of professionalism approach in the ODI like today.
And later 1987 the rules were gone liberal and instrumental richness, like quality bat, pads , gloves , pitch and visual media that made players more excited and commercial. Today no yesteryear”s puny bat but solid quality bats that bring extra power and the shot goes with bullet speed. Yes it has power to convert 2 into four and four into six.
So we can’t underestimate these batsmen’s performance only have the strike rate and average.
So strike rate and average aren’t matter that the player isn’t justified perfectly.
I have seen the shattering condition of the bowler in an ODI in which Harbhajan Singh like unspecialised batsman ( a tail ender and genuine bowler ) hit out 2 sixes consecutively on the bowling of World’s fastest speedster Bret Lee.That was slog over and Bhajji swung his bat and ball connected andl went for six. Yes not once but twice.
If we observe the SR of Harbhajan, A Agarkar, J Shreenath who are the bowlers. But their strike rate is more than 70. It means they look better than great Shreekant. Why …batsmen like these don’t have responsibility because they are selected as the bowler and their specification is in bowling only. And to make run is the onus of specialist batsmen. So they play free handedly and mindedly.
Now Sachin’ s Era in it
The rules had gone liberal and SR prospered so highly .
So SR point of view the rank is as following–
1.V Sehwag 104.44
Kapil Dev 95.04
3.Shikhar Dhawan 94.04
4.Suresh Reina 93.50
5.Virat Kohli 93.25
6.Rohit Sharma 88.92.
7.Yuvraj Singh 87.43
8.MS Dhoni 87.13
S Tendulkar 86.23
10..G Gambhir 85.20
11.Sandip Patil 82.17
M Azharuddin 74.02
13.S Ganguly 73.05
K Shreekant 71.74
15.Rahul Dravid 71.18
16.Ajay Jadeja 69.80
17.Navjot Singh 69.72
18.D Vengserkar 67.73
19.Sunil Gavaskar 62.26
20.Ravi Shastri 61.10
*Remark:–These are the 20 batsmen whose career tally is atleast 3000 excluding Sandeep Patil . I have included him because his SR is well . But some batsmen are left due to not have 3000 run total . Yes, they are–
M Amarnath 1912/
30.53 / 57.71
2.Sanjay Manjrekar 1994 run, 33.2 Ave 64.3 SR
Robin Singh 2336
/74.30 /
M.Kaif 2773/72.03
4..A Rahane 78.63
5.VvS Laxman 2338 / 71.23
6.Dinesh Kartik 1752/73.24
7.Vinod Kambli 2477/ 71.94
8.Kedar Jadhav 1389/ 101.60
9..KL Rahul 1239/87
10.R Jadeja 2296 / 85.96
These 10 batsmen’s list in which whose cadre is higher to have international status . Undoubtedly Mohinder
Amarnath’s stature is very higher . And in this 10 only M Amarnath has the fear in opposition and capable to turn the match or the image of match winner.
Strike rate & average
In ODI cricket isn’t problem if the batsman goes through certain determination and prior plan. If a batsman start swinging the bat to have bit caution then strike rate and average can be maintained easily.
See Kapil Dev and. V Sehwag ‘s batting average is poor but SR is envious. But both ones’ consistency was uncertain and the better can’t bet on them. Both were unpredictable in batting. They were hitter only. What is the condition of the match they didn’t care and hitting and hitting was their religion. Yeah once Kapil played one of the greatest ODI innings by keeping great patience and amassed big 175 not out. And his great accountability as the batsman awarded win to india at the crucial stage when the match was almost lost.
Secondly longevity of the career is always matter. Why……?
Because each batsman has his budding or blooming days , hay or green days, dry days ,withered days. And after all what the batsman or player of any field leaves at the end.
Through this I conclude that if ODI history is observed closely then
the best 25 rank is existed as–
1.K Shreekant 4091 run
2.S Gavaskar 3092
3.D Vengserkar 3508
M. Amarnath 1924
5.Sorabh Ganguly 11221
6.S Tendulakar 18426
7.Yuvraj Singh 8609
8.Rahul Dravid 10768
9.MS Dhoni 10559
10.M Azharuddin 9378
Shikar Dhawan 5688
12.Suresh Reina 5615
13.Ajay Jadeja 5359
14..Rohit Sharma 9115
15.Virat Kohli 11867
16.Kapil Dev 3783
17..Sanjay Manjrekar
18.Ravi Shastri 3108
19..Navjot Siddhu 4413
20..G Gambhir 5238
21.Robin Singh 2336
22.VVS Laxman 2338
23.A Rahane 2963
24..V Kambli 2477
25.S Manjarekar 1994
Though I have viewrd and reviewed all to have my look with universal sight and tried to evaluate but I know each fan has its own stand and I too. But as a critic atrend all direct and indirect fact and by scrutinized I have prepared my description . The idea occurred out when I often read the mockery on great Gavaskar’s snail innings of 36 n.o. in the inaugural tie of World Cup 1975 against host England . Here I have tried to justify one of the great batsmen of india.
If you observe the figures of SM Gavaskar that is compiled by the statistician then Gavaskar’s ODI career has been divided into two phase that to justify with the great who transformed him for one days. Yeah have a look-
*Since 1972 to 1984
