The Big Fighter Of Match Saving-‘Sunny Gavaskar’

Sunil Gavaskar was the big fighter as the batsman in the toughest situation*
Yesterday ( 25 March,2020 ) former indian pacer Karsan Ghavri says though in a talk that there is no comparison of three batting greats of india and hero of their generation but yes there is no match to S Gavarnar in his sense. He says a master of batting and his era had great fast bowlers all around the world cricket and it was tough to face them particulary as the opening batsman.
Batting record of SM Gavaskar is awesome and at abroad his data is envious. And he was the big warriors in the tough situations. In the 2nd innings his figures are worthier than the 1st innings. Under pressure he was the rock and was a big warrior who never gave up till the end and used to fought singlehandedly . At the time of Sunny the team.potential was zero and on the match of there was not match. Since the start indian cricket seemed two awesome genuine fast bowlers as Mohammad Nisar and Amar Singh who left their great mark in the History and the rivals showered accolade or praise on the duo. On a very short career they impressed the rivals and the fans. But later the indian bowling remained dependent on the spinners. Though india have produced. Some great spinners but couldn’t create out fear against the rivals like Shane Warne , M Muralidharan, Jim Laker , D Underwood, A Kadir.
And india totally depended on the spin attack. After long await india got genuine fast bowler as Kaesan Gavari but alas without good supporter or partner but in 1979 he got a big partner in the form of Kapil Dev. Yes Kapil was genuine fast bowler who had ability to make difference. If we talk about the batting at the prime stage india got gifted master class batsmen but all alone . Vijay Merchant, Vijay Hazare , Polly Umrighar are the big name in indian cricket as the batsman but their career remained shorter and they presented different decade. In the decade of 70s and 80s india again dwstined to get two big batsmen aa GR Wishwnath and Sunny Gavaskar. And they gave international fame to india in the batting arena. And SM Gavaskar proven extraordinary despite the timid batting side. Due to a weaker batting and bowling site SM Gavaskar must have to play defensive and at that time drawn match against the teams was considered a feat and Sunny had felt that his team can’t win but he can be carried the match up to the drawn. It is better policy to save the match instead of defeat. But shallow fans criticize Sunny that he was selfish and played only for individual feat or record . The generation knows of that era that team batting was dependent on Gavaskar and being opener his responsibility was bigger and had to lift innings on his soldiers. And how difficult to bat the then. After 90s indian cricket was lucky that it replaced by some great players yeah as Sachin Tendulkar , Sourabh Ganguly ,Rahul Dravid , VVS Laxman , Virender Sehwag. And once the whole team was beeded with big batsmen and big bowlers. So the players could play freely and so their figures are envious.
SM Gavaskar could play bit freely in 80s when he got good supporting batsman like Mohinder Amarnath, Dilip Vengsarkar, K Shreekant , Sandip Patil ,Ravi Shastri , Azharuddin, Yashpal Sharma, etc .
And india start winning despite drawn because Sunny had felt if he gets out cheaply other batsmen are in the team who can lift onus to build the innings .
Yes through this note it’s vividly proven that SM Gavarnar was a big fighter of his kind and the emperor of critical circumstances. I salute Sunny’s spirit. In an interview all-rounder legend of india Kapil Dev had said that there was one difference between Sunny Gavaskar and him that he had not want to loss match and I wanted to win the match . Cricket is a team a team game no player can award victory single-handedly and for win team efforts’ need . By individual feat you can protect match and some time gifts victory. But sure always avoid defeat.
