◆[ On Indian Cricket Team’s sheer debacle there in the stadium of Adelaide, Australia as the guest ]◆
In the very first Test ( Day-Night ) match of the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series there in Australia at Adelaide the match gone over in just the three days. India did bundle out only on 36 runs the lowest ever in the history of indian Test cricket. Before it the megrea collapse of India had happened in June , in 1974 tour of India against England ,in London, England against the fiery attack of Geoff Arnold, Chris Old, M Handrick. There in England climate plays too with bowlers’ bowling. In the 1st innings team England piled up 629 runs and India couldn’t avoid follow on and in the 2nd innings there in Macca of Cricket Lord’s India got shattered bitrely like sand dune only on 42 run . In that innings only Eknath Solkar could cross double figure of 18 run not out. There was huge inclusion as the batsman like Sunil Gavaskar, G R Vishwanath , Ajit Wadekar, Farukh Engineer, Brijesh Patel but india collapsed like the heap of playcards on poor 42. There were only two speedsters as Geoff Arnold and Chris Old who were responsible for that crash and disaster. India was bundled out only in 17 overs. After 50 years of span such but greater poor or horrified collapse has come for india under Virar Kohli who has a great captaincy record and as a batsman has a big goodwill. In the first innings he scored 74 but by having close look his batting was not according to his class and reputation. His stroke was not under his great repute if evaluate overall. He was out when the delivery of N Lyon snicked and appealed but field umpire didn’t respond but in the replay he was trapped by fault. But remained lucky because captain T Paine didn’t ask 3 rd umpire. He played some edging strokes so we can say no rhythmic music in his 74 runs’ innings and can be said harsh for the big Test lovers. Making run is not matter in the Test cricket but how do the runs come is the matter.
In the first innings india stopped out Australia under 200. Yes 191 only in reply of india:s 244 run in the 1st innings . India got 53 runs lead and heaved out that it is in a good position . But something different was hidden in the lap of the luck of india and unbelievably india was restricted only on 36 by the Kangaroos. And the great surprise that no Indian batter could reach double figure. Yeah opener Mayank Agrawal scored 9 the highest by the indian side. And if pointing close and critic look a life he got yes was dropped at the point on the’ delivery of pacer Pat Commins on the previous day at the beginning of Second Innings .
Here the point is to mind that the team had big batting specialist batsmen like Virat Kohali, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agrawal , Prithvi Shaw ( The batsman who has the highest individual score in teen aged cricket ,Harris Shield
546 run ), Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha,
In the History of india Test Cricket india have bundled out under 50 two times .
In the Lord’s Test in 1974 Sunil Gavaskar made only 5 but he faced 26 deliveries and got out at number 5 . Here ball played by him is a big matter. There you needed to stay. And if any partner would have assisted S Gavaskar then the situation would be different. But getting out at other end the non-striker batsman’s concentration gets disturbance and his game affected in the indirect this and that way. Here i am pointing the fact that the ball point of view on the third day Hanuma Vihari was only the batsman who could play the highest deliveries in the awesome and hostile condition . If talk about the total balls play by the indian batsmen up to finish the whole innings lasted 128 . It means
- 2 overs. If talk about the personal balls faced off by the batsmen then Mayank Agrawal faced off 21 deliveries and scored 5 run and Jasprit Bumrah faced 11 balls . But the friends it is the story of the 2nd day ending. And the day third story is dreadful and drastic. Yes up to lose out his wicket Mayank Agrawal played 40 balls but in real after started havoc he played 40-21= 19 deliveries ,the 2nd highest after Hanuma Vihari. Hanuma played 22 odd deliveries on that crucial stage. Yes
wicketkeeper batsman Widdhiman Saha played 15 balls. Thus ball point of view 3 batsmen entered into the double digit. And run point of view as mentioned no one could reach the double digit.
In compare to this debacle the 42 run score out there at England in 1974 is bit less . Individual score point of view Ekanath Solkar the allrounder the then made 18 and remained unbeaten. He faced just 17 balls and made 18. And except him indian batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar made just 5 run but played 26 deliveries up to lose out his precious wicket. He was adjudged LBW on the delivery of G Arnold. Apart from these two batters only Brijesh Patel reached double digit . He faced 10 delivery and made one run and to these three ball point of view no one could reach double digit. Yeah in that match the batting line up was equipped with GR Vishwanath, A Wadekar, F Engineer ,Brijesh Patel all were pivotal of their time. So in these one of the lowest scores 36 and 42 the run isn’t count and the balls are the vital matter. No one could enter into double figure in the Adelaide Test and the biggest score remain 9. In real only 4 because M Agrawal was not out on 5 at the stump of the 2nd day and after overnight score resumed the innings and added 4 run to his previous score . Yes he played 19 balls on that occasion after rebegun his innings.
So ball point of view Sunil Gavaskar rests highest by playing 26 balls and score point of view 18 run unbeaten by india’s Johnty Rodds Eknath Solkar.
Hanuma Vihari played 22 balls so rest at the 2nd place.
At the end I do say I have presented some different kind of description because of odd 36 collapse made by Pet Commins and Josh Hazzlewood.
