{ On V. Mankad vs K Dev – Two big all-rounders of their era }
[ Discussion on– Who is greater ? ]

In the game of cricket the place of the all rounders is very important and it is only the player who can turn the match singlehandedly. Since the beginning if we remind then game cricket has produced many all rounders cricketers. But some have the unique place as the great all rounders . Yeah J Miller ,Richi Benod and S Waugh from Australia; Richard Hadlee and C Cairns from New Zealand; Imran Khan and Mustaq Mohammad from Pakistan;Binu Mankar ,Kapil Dev from India ; From Shree Lanka Sanat Jaysurya; From S Africa Lance Klusner and J Kalis; Constentine, Gary Soberse from the West Indies; Ian Bothom, A Flintoff from England are the big names in this arena. And despite big statistics all rounders like Bothom, Imran ,Hadlee, Kalis are measured behind Gary Soberse. And arguably considered the greatest all-rounder ever of Test cricket. After G Soberse J Kalis has the emphatic figures . And Imran, Bothom,R Hadlee and Kapil Dev are considered one of the greatest giant all rounders of the modern era. But these fours are genuinely the bowler all rounders while G Soberse ,J Kalis and S Waugh are the genuine batting all-rounders.
Here in this mirror I do put India’s two all rounders – Vinu Mankar and Kapil Dev. Yes these two cricketers of india have big place in the list of All-Rounders. Kapil Dev acquired a big place alongwith greatest ones Imran, I Bothom and R Hadlee. Though on the scale Kapil rests at number four. But Kapil is the gem of india and draw the name of india on the name of All Rounder. Before Kapil India did produce Vinu Mankar as the big all-rounder but he played only the Test cricket but his record is good as the all-rounder. Vinu earned his name with the bat rather than his bowling. Binu was the spinner and his statistics are not bad. If compare to great Kapil Dev he retreats in the bowling with greater digit . Yes Vinu’ s bowling average is 32.32 while Kapil’s is 29.64. And comparatively Kapil rest greater with the margin of 2.68 . But to see the height of the average nature it’s a huge digit margin. In the bowling field one or two digit is bigger to evaluate greater and meaner. And in the batting average Vinu isn’t seemed giant . Yes Vinu’s batting average is 31.47 and Kapil’s 31.05. Yes to measure in batting 0.42 margin rests and to see the nature of batting average it is so thinner.
Yes if see the figures of 100s and 50s then Vinu has 5/ 6 and Kapil has 8/27. But Vinu played just 44 Test while Kapil has payed 131. So in the hundreds concerned Vinu is ahead. And if observe the 50s then Vinu would make 18 half centuries up to 132 Tests. In this way Kapil Dev leads by 9 half centuries.
If talk about the highest individual then Vinu leads by huge margin . Yes his highest individual is 231 while Kapil’s highest individual is 163.
If talks about 5 wickets and 10 wickets haul then in 5fers Kapil leads but in the 10ters both rest equal but to see the short career Vinu leads by huge margin. Both have two times 10ters . In the 5fers Vinu gained 8 times and Kapil 23.
In the scale of statistics in 44 Tests 8 then in 88 Test 16 and in 132 Tests 24 times 5fers .Thus both the stalwarts rest equalled. Yes glimpse out on the best individual bowling analysis or figure then Vinu seems bit ahead. Yeah Kapil ‘s best bowling figure is
9/83 and for each wicket in that innings cost 9.22 runs and Vinu’s best innings figure is
8/52 so spent out 6.50 runs for per wicket. Now about catches yes Kapil took 64 catches and Vinu took 33 catches. In the catching sense Vinu leads by huge margin. Because up to 132 Tests Vinu’s catching tally rests 99 while up to finish Kapil ‘s tally is 64 so retreating by 35 catches.
Yeah to see this all who rests greater overall….? As a batsman Vinu was a consistant and reliable batsman and master batsman rather than the bowler. Vinu has unique record on his worthy name that he is lone batter who has played on all the downs or places . Yes opener to bottom or 1st to the last batsman no.11th. As the opener he slammed a double century and held the record of highest individual score from india 231 before SM Gavaskar’s 236 n.o. Vinu’s century proportion or ratio is good than Kapil. Kapil up to finished his career made 8 centuries and if Vinu would have played 132 Tests then his hundreds tally would be rested 15 . Vinu was a left handed batsman and bowler while Kapil Dev was a right handed cricketer. Vinu was a spinner while Kapil a speedster and medium pacer. Swing was his weapon. He was a striker opening bowler who earned name as the bowler. As the bowler he didn’t create fear but earned reputation. He wasn’t unplayable but has place in the mind of the batsmen that yes to play him need so much caution . Kapil’s bowling average is handsome than Vinu. 29.64 means 30 in round figure and as the fast medium bowler is impressive. Yes if compare this figure with his contemporary rivals than his bowling figures are bit away particularly Imran and R Haldee are far ahead.Yes because the critics have put 25 bowling avarage for the top Test bowlers. But the bowling was Kapil’s strength and gave him the reputation. Being the pacer he remained the leading bowler of the team india and after M Nisar and Amar Singh he gave the recognization of speedy bowling of india in the world cricket. He broke the Test record of R Hadlee and retired at the high reputed position by putting a challenge of surmount the Test Wicket figures.
But i am in a great dilemma to decide who is greater. I have already said that the comparison is the devil’s thing but it is always so interesting. Most of the fans like the comparison. And so I have to conclude one name . But before finalize the one name I put the divine essence that is that Vinu Mankar is greater all-rounder as the batting all-rounder. And Kapil Dev is greater than Vinu as the bowling all-rounder. Thus both are the equal and the discussion got the end. And in this way both are esteemed in godly way. And both one’s fans are on the Eden to have it because of no plus no minus. But I end up the discussion to put the supreme name that is so hyper and that persona is Vinu Mankar because of his great batting consistency as the batsman and as the on field catches tally figures point of view Vinu is greater . And as the spinner his bowling figures are not bad. Sir Gary Soberse’s bowling average was 34.03 . He took 235 Test wickets in 85 Test . And he is critically as well as arguably considered as the greatest ever Test All-rounder of the world cricket. Yeah his Test batting average 57.78 is handsome with 8032 run by hitting 26 hundreds and 30 half centuries. Yeah he has one triple 365 n.o. individual is his highest Test score . His Test catches tally is 109 is also impressive. His best one Test innings bowling analysis is
6/73. And comparatively to Vinu it looks faded or dimmed . Yeah Vinu has 32.32 bowling average and G Soberse has 34.03 . Gary played 93 Tests and Vinu 44. Vinu took 162 ( by bowled 14686 balls , 8 fivefers 2 times bagging 10 wickets 2 times )
Test wickets and G Soberse 265 Test wickets ( by delivered 21599 balls , 6 fivefers no scalped 10 wickets haul ).
So if make comparative study
Then
162 / 265 wickets
14686 vs 215999 balls

5 wickets haul 8 vs 6 times

●33 vs 109 catches. Yes in catching field Soberse looks giant●

*Ten wicket haul
2 vs 0 times

Average 32.32 vs 34.03

In this way Vinu rests higher than Soberse.
Why I have kept these comparison yes only to stress out my evolution that favours Vinu Mankad. Here G Soberse ‘s bowling performance isn’t awesome like his batting and catching feat. But he is considered all time greatest Test Allrounder. So Vinu’s consistancy in batting must be minded such as Kapil’s bowling rhythm and striking skill put him ahead. But ultimately i favour Vinu Mankad as the greatest allrounder of India. Kapil’s feat is higher and due to technology and media and his 1983 miracle at Lord’s buzzed a lot but in the true sense it was Vinu who rocked and dominated as an allrounder. The Bible of Cricket has chanted the hymn on him as one of the greatest allrounders of Test arena. Yeah due to tevision and media revolution the name of Kapil Dev is echoed a lot and particularly for his accidental and destined feat of World Cup 1983. Kapil was genuine bowler and batting for him was just an entertainment and he used to enjoy by aggression and believe only in hitting. And due to hitting natured remained inconsistent in batting. He used to think his main task and responsibility is bowling and how many runs he added was just a bonus for the team. He was fearless so used to shatter the bowling attack. Yeah as the bowler I salute him but as the all-rounder I evaluate him lesser . In my sense there no all-rounder the world cricket has ever produced because for the all time best not greatest all rounder the figure must be —
Bowling section – 25average
Batting section –
50 average
Catching – per match 2 catch
Yeah for the greatest ever allrounder the figures must be-
Bowling—–
20 average
Batting —-
75 average
Catching—-
3 catch per match
Hundreds—-
1 hundred at least in 3 innings
But okay on the available base G Sobsrse is the greatest all-rounder ever. And Vinu Mankar is the best all-rounder of india. Though I didn’t see Vinu playing and I witnessed Kapil’s feat but many a times he despaired me and he was unpredictable cricketer. At the age of 20 Vinu’s performance in unofficial Test in England was remained phenomenal and the captain the then of the team England elected him for the world eleven and this thing reveal the cadre of Vinu Mankad. Due to the 2nd World War broken his career ruined at the pick age. He played his 1st Test at the age of 29 but his performance remained good though not Soberseque . We can think 20 to 28 what pick the players have.
