The Genuine Talents Of Cricket Ruined Due To Bloodsheds
**The genuine Talents of cricket ruined out due to.. Bloodsheds!** ( The World War 1st and 2nd interrupted and barred the innocent talents of sports and games World ….. here about cricket only. )
The Test cricket was begun in 1877. At the primer stage there was only two rivals and in the long history of the game 1877 up to 2020 only 11 nations are the official rivals while there are more than 200 states in the political world. Since the start cricket fans enjoyed the great rivalry in the play between England vs Australia. In the very 1st Test of the cricket history Charles Bannerman hit out a brilliant century while the batting was not easy the then. And the Australian speedster F Spofforth blurred the batsmen by his genuine pace. The leading batsman of that prime period and so called the father of the game WG Grace couldn’t show his class as a batsman and ousted on the cheap score. He called him giant. On the bowling speed of F Spofforth he reacted that he couldn’t see the ball and completely dazzled him with the sheer pace..The Tests series as the Test matches would have remained in process in its prosperous way up to 1910 , yes in the count 33 years of span. But abruptly got stopped due to outbroken of the World War First in 1911. And it ran almost up to 1919. It means ruined out the game for nine year. And the nine years’ wasting means the cricketerd who were 25 years got older now and turned 35 and the game point of view the age 35 is twilight or the eve of the career. Yes such thing did happen with the cricketers of that time. And after some years’ gap the World War second outbroken or burst out between the Allies and Axis nations in 1939 and came to the end in 1945. Thus precious 6 years of their career got ruined . And after treaty to get the condition even might be one year be taken.
There were many big cricketers of that span who lost out their precious action. Player like Donald Bradman lost out his action too due to World War 2nd. He slammed his last century in 1938 and then in November 1946 he slammed his century. Though he kept his scintillating form during these 7 years. But can say his prime or pick time was devasted by the World War Second and his prime and pick time affected . If we observe out his performance before 1946 then he had two triple century and ten double hundred on his worthy name . But alas ! There is no double or triple century on his name after 1946. After 1946 when the cricket action resumed his highest score remained only 173 run. So it is cleared that his great talent was affected during that crucial gap.But overall his performance seems decent but it is cleared if the World War would not deteriorate his dazzling pick his feat would be double indeed . Such as if we observe out some other greats whose career been too got deferred due to this materialistic political ambitious incidents. We can talk what is available before us but can be discussed to have ifs & buts but those gods of the game suffered due to the 3rd factor it is tragic for them and fans and for the whole cricket world . If we glimpse out the career of some Indian greats particularly the batsmen who had the World class talent but missed out the action due to the 2nd World War. And if we talk about bowling talent from India then the speedsters duo of Amar Singh- Mohammad Nisar been too suffered though Amar Singh left away the world in 1938 just before the 2nd World War due to pnuemonia in the mere age of 30 but M Nisar who left this world in 1960 yes missed out his great job.Yes at that time India had the big batting geniuses as Vijay Merchant , Vijay Hazare, Lala Amarnath who were extraordinary in batting field but at the international level they did get less chance so their international figures are not as bigger as the batsmen of 1991 to 2020 duration but in the domestic format they remained giant . But alas ! For the greatness you need to perform at the highest level so no one can raise finger on your performance. Why ….. because all is transparent there. Yeah fixing is a different matter in this case. Some players sell out their soul for money because nation’s reputation isn’t matter for them and patriotic spirit isn’t meant for them against money. That kind of act must be considered as the sadition and the gulity persons as the traitor. Yeah this kinds of acts are 00.01% so no matter of transparency at all.Domestic level cricket is the base to select the cricketers at the national level and that national level selection give chance to play at international level to present the national side. It’s a great proud as well as a big achievement for individuals. But after selecting at the national level you need to prove that your selection isn’t wrong or fake or on the recommedation based and we do see many cricketers have shown great performances at the domestic level but at the international level by presenting the national side they couldn’t perform greatly and satisfactorily and soon ousted or thrown out or overlooked by the national selectors. And after throwing they begin newly to prove again and show big form by solid performance and compelled the selectors to call back and many ones have made successful comeback but many ones didnt. We have a big examples in this prior concerned that many cricketers’ record or figures remained so impressive in the domestic platform but couldn’t make debut at the international level. From india there are many Ramji giants but alas they didn’t select at the national level. And see one another indigestible point that Ravindra Jadeja who has three triple hundreds on his name at the Ranji arena but alas he didn’t show that kind of class at the international level. And amazing he isn’t a specialist batsman but enviously or chiding record of three triple hundreds. He is a genuine spin bowler while to see his domestic feat in the batting field is awesome and he must have a big achiever in the batting field but an ordinary figures in batting while he has got many a chances to show it . So the critics and experts often raise fingers on your game and achievement . But Vijay Merchant , Vijay Hazare and Lala Amaranath as the batsman proved in their short career at the international level that they were real master and if would get full period to play their figures would have been skying. At the domestic platform their performances remained higher and can’t be raised finger on their extraordinary talent and on their domestic figures . Yeah some big achievers at the domestic format availed the certain chances to play at the international level but couldn’t handle the pressure and remained flop. And one more point by attending I do say that Navlekar is the batsman of India who has a mammoth Ranji record of an individual innings that is quadruple 443 not out but alas he didn’t get opportunity to represent nation’s team. In this matter the selectors have different criteria for selection but when a batsman scores 443 it’s not a fake. But yeah what is the class of his batting , temperament, rival’s strength, wicket’s nature, conditions, drop chances, beaten chances are the factors to observe and might be that would be the factors . In case of Navthey who made 1000 individual score at the school level but no name is buzzing after that as the outstanding talent like Sachin Tendulkar and V Kambli . And his name is diminished after that feat. And one another factor might be like Padmakar Shivalkar the great spinner on whom batsman like S Gavaskar and others showered a big praise couldn’t get place because the place was already fulfilled he could be replaced . He could be replaced only in case of off form of B Besi. But it didn’t happen. In this matter he didn’t have the particular luck. So it is cleared P Shivalkar was not lucky enough and through out the life awaited and awaited. So despite have a great class and intellectual the world cricket couldn’t see him at the international level which is only the base to measure the greatness of the player. Today we see the big figures of the cricketers and when we compare them to that past cricketers then we neglect those greats because of short career and not due not have big figures. But at the same we attend Vinod Kambli, Vogue , G Polock but not count as the great except G Pollock while average point of view Vogue and Kambli are giant but V Kambli’s performance was against average England team and Vogue wasn’t rampaging and extraordinary in real image. Vijay Merchant who performed amply there in the land of England at his tour . In the Test match and in the 1st class matches he remained phenominal . Yeah maintained same class and same figures as domestic slat of india. So his figures and class is undisputed. Unluckily due to ailment issue he couldn’t tour Australia where he had to play against the Don’ s squad. But it was ill destiny but V Merchant the domestic counterpart or rival Vijay Hazare showed great class and won the heart of Sir Don Bradman who showered his true accolade on him for his classic and compact batting. If V Merchant would be there it was sure he would too be the marvellous presentee like his team fellow great V Hazare. After watching the batting class , temperament and compactness of Vijay Merchant’s a British cricketer extracted a worthy reaction that let’s colour him white and bring him for the Australian tour as an English opener. You know to play as an opener against Australia in that era was a challenge or not easy because Australia had invincible genuine pace attack. Lala Amarnath was the third seed of that prosperous crop. Who hit out a century in his debut against Pakistan. His domestic level performance was awesome and appreciable if we evaluate the performance of his contemporaries. His Test figure seems ordinary if compare with the today’s greats but at that time 30 plus batting average was considered bigger or valued a lot because at that era the wickets used to be tougher to bat and no bouncers’ limitations , no helmet and poor apparatuses like punny or poor bat ,pad ,gloves, abdomen ,etc. And apart from it his prime time ruined out due to the World War. So I do stress that sometimes data or figures do not reveal the real picture. So need to salute those gentlemen of the game . And present generation or generation of any era wouldn’t underestimate those greats only on figures’ base.*NK Sevak “Sanatan” ** Cricket Critic and Article Writer
