IS Berry Richards Really Havier Than Sunny Gavaskar ?

Its Sunny Gavaskar vs Berry Richards Paramount Heights With A Transparent Mirror !

Some veterans,
aces,experts,contemporaries ,critics, fans ,Staticians, commentators consider Berry Richards as the better opening batsman over Sunil Gavaskar and prefer him as the opener in the world Eleven. But if make query and peep out deeply then Sunny rests greater than Berry. How is Sunny greater than Berry yeah Berry has played only 4 Tests in which he has 72.57 batting average with 2 hundreds and 2 half hundreds to represent his nation and same as Sunny represented his nation at his debut and piled up 774 runs with one double hundred, 3 single hundreds and 3 fifties with amazing batting average of 154.8 so it’s clear that on this base Sunny is far ahead to Berry Richards and no reason to count and measure Berry greater to Sunil Gavaskar . The fact is to mind that when the player represents or plays from his own country then he is there with extra burden and high pressure to perform for the nation proud and glory because there is the patriotism of the fans is on the sky and the player has to give great joy,proud and satisfaction to his countryman by performing highly and needs to handle the critical situations and in this sense at the debut Sunny leads with the greater margin. Alas after that debut due to the ban the nation South Africa couldn’t be played and in form batter Berry couldn’t play from his nation side at the internationallevel . But yes he played in the County and Sheffield side yeah in FC format and LA format and performed in a huge manner with high and rich stats but compare to Sunny his stats are rather equalled and at the international platform Sunny’s performance is handsome. Yeah during that period Sunny played FC in which his stats are matched with Berry but trail by average 3 with Berry.Yes if attend the LA in which Berry ‘s stats are higher than Sunny with average 4 but in centuries tally rather equalled with 80 and 81 though Sunny played 10 more matches than Berry. And yes in the half hundreds tally Berry is far ahead with 155 to 105 of Sunny. But one fact is renowned about Sunny that he didn’t believe in practice and didn’t take the FC and LA greaterly than the international format yeah the Test Match and it’s cleared that his stats are handsome in the Test arena.

Yes see the stats of both the opening emperors and maestros

Berry Richards :

* 4 Tests 508 runs, 2 hundreds ,2 half hundreds, batting average 72.57 ,highest individual score 140

*FC Matches 339 ,runsb 28358 80/ 152 hundreds and fifties, batting average 54.74 , highest individual score 356

*LA matches 233 ,runs 8506,Batting Average 40 .12, , 16/50 hundreds and half hundreds,HIS 155 n.o.

* Sunil Gavaskar

Test 125, runs 10122 ,Hundreds/Fifties 34 /45 batting average 51.12 ,HIS 236 n.o.

*FC 348, runs 25834 Hundreds/Half Hundreds 81/105, HIS 340

* LA 151 matches ,run 4594, batting average 36.17 ,Hundreds/Fifties 5/37 ,HIS 123 ,

*ODI 108, runs 3092,battingaverage 35.13 1/27, HIS 103 n.o.. And apart from it Sunny played the ODI that he didn’t take seriously at the beginning but later he grasped and performed well and the batting average of 35 in the ODI isn’t thinner yeah to measure that era.
So in my sense Berry can’t be said greater opener than Sunny .Yeah Berry is a flamboyant and swashbuckling batsman while Sunny is a defensive class batter . His innings aren’t thumping and explossive but he is the batsman that the rival bowlers have to thing at night yeah what strategy should use to make Sunny out cheaply . Yes when we talk about the Test then there is no point of run strike rate .But the Test days’ are limited for five days and Draw is the matter so the fans and spectators want the decision and so want fast score so they like the stroke making batter. But when the Test match is played then there would be no care about the fans and their entertainment and money earning by the board and the Test match must be play with timeless mode so the power,approach and ability can be scaled of both the Elevens. And then there is no cry for or of RSR of the batsmen and how many runs he score with class would be only the matter .
So far many openers played as the specialist batsman but of 150 years of the Test history only 5 batsmen as the opener could have occurred 50 plus batting average. Yeah they are Sir Jack Hobbs, Len Hutton, Herbert Sutcliffe, Methew Hayden and Sunil Gavaskar if talk about the longevity of the career yeah plus 50 Test at least . In a refined way as 1950 the opener yeah Bobby Simpson rests first in average with 55.51 but by play 38 Tests and 70 innings scored 3664 runs as the opener and Dennis Amis who played 39 Test 69 innings scored 3276 runs with 53.70 .
And after these both only Methew Hayden,Virender Sehwag Simon Kettitch could have finished their career as the opening batsmen with plus 50 batting average.
Yes M Hayden played 103 Tests 184 innings, 8625 runs with 50.73 as the pured opener.
Simon Kettitch 33 Tests,61 innings, 2928 runs ,50.48
Virender Sehwag 99 Test 170 innings, 8202, 50.04 and the most prolific all time greatest opener Sunil Gavaskar has played 119 Test and 203 innings as the genuine opener and scored 9607 with 50.29 batting average.
So it’s cleared in the longevity nature as the opener Sunil Gavaskar rests at the front who played marathon 200 plus Test innings.
Yes before 1950 only three stalwarts Jack Hobbs,Herbert Suttcliffe and Len Hutton could’ve finished their batting career with big batting average yeah Sir Jack Hobbs 58 Test,97 innings ,5130 runs with 56.37 batting average, Herbert Suttcliffe 54 Tests,83 innings,4522 runs with 61.10 batting average and Len Hutton 76 Tests,131 innings 6721 with 56.47 batting average.
So what I want to focus and want to say that as the specialist opener Sunny Gavaskar rank the first reviewing all the aspects of the discussed openers. Yeah longevity is a big matter in the sports and games and here particularly in Cricket why because it is very difficult to maintain the good form,energy,stamina and fitness. And in this sense Sunny Gavaskar rests the super star and dominant hero as the Test opener. Some critics say score with attack put you top like Viv Richards but to defend the ball and stay on the batting crease isn’t easy.And as the opener against the quality ferocious fast bowling attack always been a challenge to face with all tactics and confidence and it makes the opening slot vital and challenging.
