The National Team’s Batting Coach And His Cadre !
{ On India’s national cricket team’s batting coach Vikram Rathour }
Once Sunny the great said in his article that the chief selectors for the indian national team appointed by the BCCI’s statue is quite ordinary. He was pointing at SK Prasad whose international figures were very poor or below the average and its ridiclous that the chief selector’s career remained so short and above it so meagre. Million rupees is his salary and all VIP facilities are provided to him by the BCCl . Such kind of idea stroke out in my mind when i know that Vikram Rathour is the main coach of batting field whose career spanned only for a year in party tenure. His performance remained so poor despite given chances and ousted soon from the indian national team. But he is the head coach of indian team’s batting department. How can this kind of batsman coach the colts and senior batsmen of the team . How can he be inspired whose figures are so poor. But okay a teacher who is not a Collector, Police Superintandant , Judge ,CA , doctor but he makes them so it’s well but if the teacher is excellent , intelligent and oriented on testimonials then it impresses his pupils. Though many a teachers do nor good and great on the mark sheets but they justify with their students. It is well said that experience is the teacher and each parent is itself a teacher because they have read the book of life and have passed through all philosophical facts. But we know the students get motivate from the life of biggies and make them ideal . In the batting coach regard here i do say its a tragedy that there are many biggies indian cricket have and they have brilliant career and the BCCI can nominate them as the coach because its a big responsibility and post. And one more thing we have in this reference that all the cricketers have the coach and all ones have carved by them through academy. Though one can’t afford the coach and academy fee alas can’t enter at the national level. One more thing that the cricketer like Tendulakar others whose coach is so famous and grand experience the question is ,is the national coach capable to coach him. At the national level no need of bowling , batting and fielding coach . It is wasting of big money on the name of coaches. And if it is necessary then need to prefer only biggies that the players themselves inspired with their cadre. Yeah on the name of net practice before the match need coaches for batting , bowling and fielding then have the practice coaches. Yes,they should be posted as the batting practice coaches only such as the bowlers are chosen to bowl an the net and they are called the Net Bowler. If the nation doesn’t have giants then the BCCI must have hired . India have appointed some big foreign coaches like Greg Chappal, John Right , Gary Kirsten and they impressed the players. When the head coach has big name and fame like G Chappal the captain can’t overcome him in the regard of final playing eleven. I mean he can’t favour or bias in selection as we have seen in Suresh Raina and S Ganguly’s tie up or friendship.
Here I conclude that the coach should be who has high dignity,class and cadre. Ravi Shastri is the head coach of the the in present and he remained a good player and also the captain so he is the inspiring character for the team whether it is junior or senior because Ravi is one of the former great indian cricketers. To be given highest responsibility player like Vikram Rathour is shown that there is a big recommendation of some high rank personality behind this appointment. Though in 1st class platform
V Rathour ‘s performance as a
batsman he had 11thoudand plus runs with good batting average of 49 .66 . He made 33 hundreds and 49 fifties in this slat.
At the international level he played away only 6 Test and could make only 131 run with a modest average of 13.09
and could reach up to only 44 as his highest individual score.
In the ODIs his performance is also a lower class that he played 7 ODIs made only 193 runs with the average of 27.57 with only 2 half century . In ODIs his highest score remained 54 only.
In the List A he played 99 Matches and made 3161 runs with the 33.98 average. In it he slammed
7 hunderds and 14 half hundreds . 146 run remained his top individual score in it.
Yes his 1st class performance is fine but it is in doubt when at the highest level you could not prove it. See Ravindra Jadeja who has two triple on his name in the 1st class or domestic level but can he be put above as the batsman to Virat Kohli on the batting slat who has a lone triple on his name. In the domestic level in India there are more than 35 states teams in which almost 30 are average class and equipped with one high class player or non so the score is made but against whom is the question. There is great difference that you score double 200 plus against minnow Bangladesh and made 50 plus against mammoth Australia. if you are or rested unique in the domestic level then you must need to show such spirit,class and mannerism at the international level that no one can raise out , point out finger at you and your domestic level performance.
See most of the legends performances are equal or higher than theirs domestic level figures. Don Bradman,Vijay Merchant,S Gavaskar,G Chappal, Viv Richards are the supreme example of this mirror.
To aim of pointing this point is just it that the big names often inspire the Colt and nursery wards. Though most of the coaches’ career as a cricketer found ordinary like John Buchanan, Gary Woolmer , Watmore ,Kamal Bhandarkar, Ramakant Acharekar, Tarak Sinha,etc. So experience is the teacher and it gives you all that you can guide anybody despite not good in paper and career.
